WHAT IS FINANCIAL AID?
Financial aid is money to help pay for postsecondary education or career school. This can come from the U.S. Federal Government, the state you live in, the school you want to attend, or private organizations. The office of Federal Student Aid provides more than $150 billion in grants, loans, and work-study funds to qualified students who need help paying for school. Financial Student Aid could be a great way to start your beauty education.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Everyone can apply for financial aid! Students’ ability to qualify won’t be affected by their age, race, or gender. Income level will be a contributing factor, but it will not automatically disqualify you from applying. Even if you’re unsure whether you’ll qualify, there’s no harm in applying. You never know if it could help you!
WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID I CAN APPLY FOR?
There are many federal financial aid types and options to consider. Before you know which financial aid option below you could qualify for, you first need to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid(FAFSA) form. The information on this form combined with your tax return will determine which financial aid options could be available to you.
Federal Pell Grants are awarded to students based on their financial need. The information on your FAFSA application determines whether you qualify and how much money should be awarded to help pay for your education. These are based on financial need and students who qualify for a Federal Pell Grant don’t need to pay back the money after they’ve graduated.
While student loans help cover the cost of your tuition and fees, it also can be used to pay for room and board, books, and supplies. After all, grants or scholarships can be a huge help, but these forms of aid may not help cover the full cost of school. Unlike Federal Pell Grants, student loans aren’t always based on financial need and depend on the type of loan. For loans, you will need to pay back what you borrowed after completing your schooling. Depending on the type of loan, you may need to pay for the interest while you’re in school.
WHAT IS ACCREDITATION?
In order to receive federal student aid, the institution that you are applying to has to be an accredited school. Accreditation is important because it is a measure of whether a beauty school either meets or exceeds the standards of quality education. At Elevate Salon Institute (ESI) Chubbuck, we’re proud to be accredited by the Nations Accrediting Commission of Career Arts and Sciences (NACCAS). Click here to learn more about that means for our students. Not every beauty school takes the time to ensure they meet the necessary standards for accreditation. One of the first steps a student should take is to verify if the school is recognized by a certified accrediting agency. After enrolling at an accredited beauty school, you can then start your application for FAFSA.
